LAKELAND - Manatee's Ronny Whitt fell 12-9 to Homestead South Dade's Carlos Diego in the quarterfinals of the 103-pound division in Class 3A.
Down 7-0, Whitt trimmed his deficit to 10-7, and scored a takedown late in the third period. But before he could garner any back points, Diego spun and scored two points for a reversal.
Despite the loss, Whitt, a senior, will wrestle in the second round of wrestlebacks tonight and still has a chance to finish in the top six to earn a medal.
