Prep football: Manatee QB Cord Sandberg ranked No. 1 in the state

Flavarsity.com considers Cord Sandberg the state's top quarterback for the class of 2013.

"He has the poise to not crack under pressure and a quick release," the website reads. "His running skills are by far his biggest asset."

The No. 1 ranking isn't a complete surprise - Sandberg was named the Class 7A player of the year in 2011 and placed third in the voting for Mr. Football. He threw for 2,187 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 813 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to leading the Hurricanes to the Class 7A state title.

Despite those numbers, Sandberg didn't crack Rivals' list of the country's top 250 prospects for 2012.
