Prep sports: Your favorite prep moment of the 2010-11 season

Now that Manatee's stirring run to the baseball state semifinals is over, so is the 2010- 11 prep season.

It was a good one. We saw a boys soccer team (Saint Stephen's), a softball team (Braden River) and a baseball team (the Canes) make the final four, while Manatee's Quinn Tibbetts wrestled for the Class 3A title at heavyweight.

Lakewood Ranch's Danny Walker won the Class 2A state golf title, and the Mustangs' girls cross country and distance relay team finished second in the state.

And let's not forget the football season. Manatee, which played its Kickoff Classic live on ESPN last August (crew members are setting up shop in the above photo snapped by Tiffany Tompkins-Condie), wrapped its first undefeated regular season since 1990 and made the Class 5A state semifinals for the fourth time in six years.

Southeast nearly joined the Canes, narrowly falling short in the Class 3A-Region 3 final, while Braden River and Palmetto made the playoffs under new head coaches.

What was your favorite moment of the 2010-11 season? Take a look at the poll on the right and pick one of the choices I provided. Or if you don't like my options, pick "other." And feel free to comment here or email me at jlembo@bradenton.com with other suggestions.

Also, keep reading bradenton.com in the coming weeks for our spring All-Area awards, and I will also be putting together my annual prep year in review.
