Boys prefer football while girls favor basketball, according to the latest sports participation survey results released Monday by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
Of the 393,585 boys in grades 9-12 who participated in sports last season, 41,127 of them played football. Baseball was second (15,827), followed by basketball (15,761).
Soccer was the most popular sport among girls, as 14,842 played, while 14,435 played volleyball.
A total of 386,092 girls in grades through 9-12 played sports last year.
