Prep sports: Lakewood Ranch wins Class 6A academic award

Lakewood Ranch was named the Academic Team Champion in Class 6A by the Florida High School Athletic Association, totaling 123 points to beat second-place Naples Barron Collier (115).
The award is based on the total grade-point averages of each school's teams. For a breakdown of how points are awarded, click here.
It was banner year for the Mustangs, who crowned state champions in cross country, track and field and tennis. The school's baseball and softball teams also made the state final four.
Saint Stephen's placed ninth in Class 2A with 23 points.
