(www.legion.com) Kirby Stewart Post 24's American Legion baseball team, fresh off winning its fourth state tournament this weekend under coach Dwayne Strong, continues its summer Thursday at the southeast regional tournament in Sumter, S.C.
Kirby Stewart (29-5) faces Puerto Rico on Thursday in the first round of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament. The locals defeated host Boynton Beach on Sunday to win the state championship.
Rounding out the regional field is Dalton, Ala., Cherryville, N.C., Gaffney, S.C., Greenbrier, Va., Douglasville, Ga., and host Sumter. The championship game is slated for Monday.
